Each of us grandchildren got “goodies”, as my grandma Joy liked to call them, on our 18th birthdays. Because I was always moving around with my parents, I didn’t actually get mine until this year, two years after she passed. When I opened the box, I found long-loved  trinkets that had belonged to not only my grandmother, but to all the women of her family as well, now given over to my care. Each object was carefully noted in my grandmother’s script, including some pepper shakers with 50+ year old pepper. They'd been in a box for so long, I wanted to share their quirks with others.
